Medicare Advantage in 2027: Early Trends and What to Watch

5/5/2026

Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plans change every year. Some years bring major disruption, while others focus more on stability.

As we look ahead to the Annual Enrollment Period of 2026, early signals from carriers suggest a shift toward stability—but with some important adjustments behind the scenes.

Here’s what to watch.

Benefit Changes—Less “Extra,” More Focus on Core Health Benefits

In recent years, many Medicare Advantage plans added rich extra benefits like:
  • Dental allowances
  • Over-the-counter (OTC) cards
  • Fitness reimbursements
  • Grocery or utility assistance

Some of these benefits may be reduced or adjusted going into 2027.

This doesn’t mean plans are getting worse—it means carriers are rebalancing what they offer.

What this means for you:

If you chose your plan mainly for the extra benefits, it’s worth reviewing to make sure it still fits your needs.

Plan Stability Is Improving

After several years of frequent plan changes, carriers are signaling fewer disruptions:
  • Fewer plan terminations
  • Fewer forced plan changes (crosswalks)
  • Greater focus on retaining current members

What this means for you:

You may not be required to change plans—but it’s still important to review your coverage annually.

Provider Networks Can Still Change

Even if your plan stays the same, your network might not.

Doctors, hospitals, and specialists can:
  • Join a plan
  • Leave a plan
  • Retire or move
  • Change participation levels

What this means for you:

Always confirm that your doctors are still in-network, even if you’re staying on the same plan.

Prescription Drug Coverage Is Evolving

Changes related to the Inflation Reduction Act are continuing to impact Medicare drug coverage.

These changes may include:
  • Adjustments to out-of-pocket costs
  • Changes to plan formularies
  • Different cost structures throughout the year

What this means for you:

Your prescription costs may change—even if your plan looks similar on the surface.

What WE Do to Stay on Top of These Changes

Most Medicare plan changes happen once a year—but the signals behind those changes show up throughout the year.

This isn’t something most people have the time—or interest—to track closely. That’s exactly where we come in.

Here’s how we stay current so you don’t have to:
  • Ongoing carrier updates: We monitor communications from carriers to track benefit, network, and policy changes.
  • Plan analysis during AEP: Each fall, we review available plans in detail—not just premiums, but networks, drug coverage, and overall value.
  • Client-specific reviews: We look at your doctors, prescriptions, and priorities before making any recommendations.
  • Structured comparison process: We use a consistent approach to compare plans so nothing important gets missed.
  • Year-round support: If something changes mid-year, we help you understand your options and whether you qualify for a Special Election Period.

A Quick Reminder

You don’t need to panic—but you do need to stay informed. We’re here to guide you every step of the way.
